Introduction
Titmus has set the industry standard for vision screening instruments since 1959. The "Line at a Time" Pointing System, offered exclusively by School Health Corporation, will enable you to isolate test slide lines on the "E" Symbol Acuity Test, one at a time. The Titmus 2s offers a complete series of vision tests with accuracy, speed and ease of operation. It has been engineered for accuracy, validity and reliability of the tests and ease and convenience in administration.

Product Overview and Description
The Titmus Vision 2s screener allows you to screen ages 4 through adult for acuity (near 14 inches and far - 25 feet), depth perception, color perception and muscle balance (lateral and vertical phoria), horizontal visual fields (peripheral vision of 130 degrees in each eye) in one lightweight, compact, easy-to-use instrument.

With the Titmus Vision Screener you can also screen for visual acuity at intermediate distances (40, 32, 26, 22 and 19 inches). The exclusive "Line at a Time" pointing paddle allows you to isolate one line at a time on the "E" symbol acuity, making it easier to screen younger children. The Titmus allows for much faster screenings with less screening personnel. A toggle switch regulates occlusion so there is no need to have an extra person to occlude the subject. Because it is compact, (occupying only 1.25 square feet of space), less room is needed to conduct screenings. The test slides are of a permanent type and are affixed to an internal drum, protecting them from outside elements. A large dial is used to rotate the drum. A unique blue filter provides controlled lighting of daylight clarity. Height adjustment is easily accomplished by simply raising or lowering the body of the instrument. In addition to eliminating outside light, the vision screener's facemask is designed to accommodate all sizes and types of eyeglasses.

The Titmus is ideally suited for mass screenings, allowing for fewer screening personnel, faster testing, less space and controlled lighting. The Titmus comes complete with training manual and cassette, +1.75 diopter hyperopia lens unless otherwise indicated), lens cleaner, 500 head rest tissues, 100 record forms, pointer, two replacement bulbs, dust cover and rollaway carrying case.

Product Use and Procedure
1. Place Titmus on a table of conventional height with sufficient room for the administrator to manipulate the controls and record results.
2. Plug power cord into wall outlet and the input jack into the back end of the Titmus.
3. Push power switch on (it is in the back of the instrument) and check the occluder toggle switch to ensure the proper eye is being occluded.
4. If desired, place your own forehead against the headrest and view slides to ensure the Titmus has power, all bulbs are lit and the toggle switch is occluding properly.
5. Check the lenses and the head rest tissues to ensure they are clean (a clean head rest tissue should be used for each subject).
6. Face the subject while testing. Make sure to keep an eye on the subject to ensure they maintain proper positioning (forehead against the machine with head straight).
7. Ask the subject if he or she wears glasses or contacts. (See FAQ's for more information)
Adjust machine up or down so the child is comfortable (smaller children may need to stand).
8. Subject should put forehead completely against the machine and keep both eyes open for all tests.
9. Do not let the subject continue looking at a test slide after the test has been finished.

Frequently Asked Questions
Q: If the child wears glasses, should they be screened with the glasses on?
A: If the child wears the glasses for distance only, the glasses should be worn for the FAR test only. If they are worn for reading only, they should be worn for the NEAR test only. Multifocal wearers should be tested through the proper lens area for the appropriate distance. Some multifocal lens wearers may find it easier to view the NEAR tests if they place their hands on the housing, and, using their thumbs, position their glasses so that they can look comfortably through the reading area

Q: How can I be sure the child knows when they should be wearing their glasses?
A: Ask the child "trigger questions"- Do you wear your glasses to see the chalkboard? (DISTANCE) Do you wear your glasses just for reading? (NEAR) Do you wear your glasses all the time? (Both distance and near). If a child fails the test with glasses, you may ask them to take off the glasses and view the slides again (or vice versa). Ask the child if the letters are clearer now. This may help insure they are wearing their glasses for the right purpose.

Q: On average, how many children should will be referred?
A: An estimated one in four school age children and one in twenty preschoolers have a vision problem. If you find you are over referring, it is recommended that you rescreen referrals. Rescreenings may be done on the Titmus machine or on a chart, preferably on a different day.

Q: What type of maintenance is required?
A: The most important factor of maintenance is to keep the machine clean. Keep the Titmus covered with the plastic dust cover when not in use. Lens cleaning Towelettes are supplied for cleaning the test slides and viewing lenses. Complete instructions on cleaning the instrument, changing the bulbs and general maintenance is easily explained in the Training Manual.

Q: Who do I call if I have problems with the equipment?
A: School Health Corporation. We are a Nationally Authorized Titmus Repair Facility. To see information about the service department at School Health, click here.

Q: I have an older model vision screener. Can I trade it in for a new one?
A: School Health Corporation offers a $300 trade in allowance for older model Titmus's.

Q:

There are so many models and slides to choose from. How do I know what I need?

A: Check with your supervisor or other School Nurses to see if there are guidelines in your state. If not, call your School Health Representative who can explain the different models and slides and assist you in choosing what will best meet your needs.

Q: How long does a typical Titmus Vision Screener last?
A: Depending on how well you maintain the Titmus, it should last the screener for several years. School Health Corporation offers a full repair center on the Titmus so machines can usually be refurbished when needed. Titmus OV7's, which were introduced in 1959 and discontinued in 1985, are still widely used.
