Frequently
Asked Questions
| Q: |
How
does SafetyMate work? |
| A: |
SafetyMate®
incorporates a keypad scheme similar to a typical telephone. The individual
buttons are categorically labeled with headings such as Bleeding,
Unresponsive/CPR, Convulsions and more. The product is interactive
and the user simply presses the appropriate button on the keypad to
start a sequence of questions. The questions are answered by pressing
"yes" or "no" on the keypad. For instance, the
device may ask, "Is the victim responsive?" and the rescuer
responds by depressing "yes" or "no" on the keypad.
All of the buttons are clearly labeled. By simply answering each question,
the software in the SafetyMate uses a logic tree to guide the rescuer
to take critical life-saving action to stabilize the victim until
qualified medical help arrives.

| Q: |
Who
should use SafetyMate? |
| A: |
SafetyMate®is
for everyone. SafetyMate provides great assurance during an actual
medical emergency that the proper procedures are being followed. The
procedures used in the SafetyMate complement the course content taught
by the American Red Cross in their first aid and CPR classes. Participants
in this course range from trained emergency response professionals
to those individuals who simply desire to meet OSHA requirements on
behalf of their employer. SafetyMate is especially applicable to businesses
that are required to demonstrate emergency medical preparedness for
the welfare of their employees and patrons. Constant re-education
is required for individuals to be proficient with the emergency medical
response skills and to maintain their certification. SafetyMate offers
the opportunity to refresh your skills at any time, in any location,
to reinforce the proper procedures and promote preparedness in the
case of an actual emergency.

| Q: |
What
languages is the unit available in? |
| A: |
SafetyMate is currently
offered in an English/Spanish version.
|
| Q: |
Will
I be at risk if I use SafetyMate to assist someone in a medical emergency? |
| A: |
Volunteers acting
as a first responder to a medical emergency - with or without SafetyMate
- are protected under "Good Samaritan" legislation in their
attempts to save a life.
|
| Q: |
We
have a person trained in CPR. Isn't that enough? |
| A: |
The American Heart
Association Emergency Care Committee has conducted numerous studies
that point to the need for on-going education and skills practice
sessions to be proficient with first aid and CPR skills. Retention
studies show that people trained in CPR forget the procedures as early
as 45 days after the training. SafetyMate provides an innovative way
for individuals to refresh their skills and knowledge and to be prepared
to take action in most medical emergencies.
