The purpose of the annual
event is to not only recognize those for their considerable contributions
to their respective fields, but to raise funds to support Prevent Blindness
America's ongoing vision screening, advocacy and research-sponsoring programs.
The event raised nearly $200,000 to support Prevent Blindness America's
sight-saving programs and initiatives. Hugh Parry, president and CEO of
Prevent Blindness America, presented the awards to Cormack and Rogers. Nearly
150 people enjoyed the cocktail reception, raffle drawings, dinner and awards
presentation.
Dr. Robert B. Cormack
led School Health Corporation for almost 30 years, before his retirement
in 2000. During that time, he initiated several innovative campaigns to
inform health care practitioners of chronic conditions that impact children
and new technology that can be implemented in the school setting. He sought
out and invested in early intervention products, such as the MTI Photoscreener,
that could identify vision health risks at a preverbal age. The MTI Photoscreener
is one of the necessary tools that Prevent Blindness America and its affiliates
across the country use today to screen more than 2.5 million adults and
children a year. Dr. Cormack also served on the Prevent Blindness America
Board of Directors for two terms.
Susan C. Rogers, current
president of School Health Corporation, has guided School Health's evolution
from a specialized distributor of basic supplies to a consultative solutions
provider for major health initiatives including vision and hearing screening,
emergency response preparedness, infection control, and wellness plans.
Because of her dedication to saving children's vision, she was named a
2003 Woman of Vision award winner from the Illinois Division of Prevent
Blindness America.
