The Wet Bulb Globe Temperature Index accounts for the impact that direct sunlight has on the human body. The WBGT Index combines wet and dry temperatures with a "Black Globe" temperature to accurately reflect the current risk. The American College of Sports Medicine and many state athletic associations recognize the value of WBGT readings in assessing the risk of heat-related illness. The WBGT Hotbox is housed in a rugged aluminum case and is functionally identical to the kit supplied to the U.S. military. Guidelines used by the U.S. military and the University of North Carolina athletic department are included with the kit.
